Smith Ties for Seventh at Pacific Invitational
Willamette Finishes Fifth in Team Standings
BANKS, ORE. -- Nicole Smith (Fr.) from Willamette University shot a two-day total of 161 to tie for seventh place in the women's competition at the Pacific Invitational, which ended on Sunday, Sept. 25 at the Quail Valley Golf Course. Willamette took fifth place in the team standings.
Megan McGrew of George Fox University won medalist honors with a score of 151 (74-77). She trailed Emily Guthrie of Whitworth University by one stroke after the first round, but Guthrie finished tied for second after shooting an 84 on the second day for an overall score of 157. Guthrie's 73 on Saturday was the low round of the event.
Kelsey Morrison of George Fox also tied for second at 157, as she shot 82-75--157. Fourth place was a three-way tie at 159 between Loreece Magsanide of George Fox, Jill Westendorf of GFU and Katie Zajicek from Whitman College. Magsanide and Westendorf each carded 78-81, while Zajicek shot 81-78.
Smith was tied in seventh place with Nicole Lomax of Whitworth at 161. Smith shot 80-81 and Lomax earned 79-82.
George Fox ranked first on the team leaderboard with a score of 629 (316-313). The Bruins won by 26 strokes over Whitworth in second at 655 (318-337. Whitman was third at 661 (330-331), Linfield was fourth at 680 (343-337), Willamette took fifth at 686 (340-346), Corban finished in sixth at 739 (362-377) and Pacific was seventh at 773 (390-383).
Following Smith on Willamette's team chart was Mckenzie Weinhold (Fr.), who tied for 14th with a score of 169 (82-87). Jenny Grauberger of WU shot 176 (90-86), while Lettajoe Gallup (Fr.) recorded a 180 (88-92) and Mele Anna Kastner shot 196 (90-106).
The WU women's golf team will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 8 at the Willamette Valley Championship. The tournament will last one day an will be played at Michelbook Country Club in McMinnville, Ore.
