Bearcats String Together Selections for Team of the Week

Lyons, Rowan, Carroll Chosen from Consecutive Games

SALEM, ORE. -- Three Willamette University football players each have been selected once for the D3football.com Team of the Week as a result of their efforts in one of the Bearcats past three games. Defensive end Ben Lyons (Jr., Anchorage, AK/South Anchorage HS), punter and place-kicker Mitch Rowan (Sr., Cotati, CA/Rancho Cotate HS) and outside linebacker Cullen Carroll (Jr., Petaluma, CA/St. Vincent de Paul HS) were recognized for their accomplishments.

Lyons was chosen for his efforts against Pacific University on Oct. 8. Rowan was named for his contributions against the University of Puget Sound on Oct. 15. Carroll was tabbed for the honor for his solid defensive play against Portland State University on Oct. 22.

In Willamette's 49-7 win over Pacific, Lyons had three tackles -- all for sacks -- to help the Bearcats limit the Boxers to just one touchdown. His sacks resulted in 22 yards in losses. they were earned on 3rd-and-7 at the WU 36 on Pacific's first drive of the game, 4th-and-2 at the WU 24 on the final play of the half and on 3rd-and-11 at the WU 41 on Pacific's opening drive of the second half.

Rowan had a successful day as the Bearcats won the following week at Puget Sound, 49-31. He averaged 46.7 yards on three punts, while placing two inside the 20-yard line and the other just outside the 20. His first punt covered 60 yards and put Puget Sound at its own 5-yard line just over two minutes into the game. In the third quarter, he added a 38-yard punt to the UPS 21-yard line. In the fourth quarter, he kicked a 42-yard punt that was downed at the UPS 1.

In the Bearcats' 36-10 loss against NCAA Division I (FCS) opponent Portland State last Saturday, Carroll achieved seven total tackles, including five solo stops. He registered 2.5 tackles for losses (13 yards lost), including a sack for 5 yards lost. On his sack, he also forced a fumble, which Willamette recovered at the WU 26. For the season, Carroll has earned 29 total tackles for the Bearcats.
