BELTON, TEXAS -- It's often a race against the weather for college sporting events throughout the nation this time of year. Such was the case for the Willamette University women's tennis team on Wednesday, March 28, as the Bearcats' match against the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor was initially delayed, and eventually canceled, due to rain in Belton, Texas.

The West Region match-up between the Bearcats (#13 in the Region) and the Crusaders (#15) was slated to complete Willamette's Spring Break trip to the Lone Star State. Instead, the Bearcats will return to Salem, Ore., having played two of the three matches originally scheduled for the trip.

Willamette, 5-6 on the season and 3-4 in the Northwest Conference, will return to action on Saturday, March 31 with a home match against Pacific University at the WU Tennis Courts. Match time is set for 1 p.m. (PDT). The Bearcat will be looking to even up the season series after losing a close match to the Boxers, 5-4, in Forest Grove, Ore., on Feb. 25.

Denise Poltavksi has achieved a 9-2 record in singles so far this season.
