Faulhaber and Greenberg Lead Bearcats in Pacific Northwest Hammer Throw
SALEM, ORE. -- Max Faulhaber (So., Eugene, OR/Sheldon HS) of Willamette University won the men's hammer throw and Taryn Greenberg (Fr., Newport Beach, CA/Corona Del Mar HS) of the Bearcats took second place in the women's hammer throw, as the Pacific Northwest Relays concluded on Saturday, April 7.
Events on Friday, April 6 were held at Clackamas Community College in Oregon City, Ore., but the hammer throw was hosted by Willamette on Saturday.
Faulhaber achieved a top throw of 171' 7" to win the men's competition. Wyatt Briggs (Jr., Scio, OR/Scio HS) earned second place at 162' 6", while Shaun Lemafa from Clackamas CC was third at 157' 2".
While claiming second place in the women's event, Greenberg set a personal record and moved into the Willamette Top 10 as she registered a toss of 127' 9". She surpassed her previous top distance of 127' 3", which she earned in the Willamette versus Corban dual meet on March 15, 2012.
On Saturday, Katie Higgins from Clackamas CC won the women's hammer throw by recording a distance of 153' 2".
Up next for the Bearcat track and field teams will be the Northwest Conference Multi-Event Championships, set for Monday, April 9 and Tuesday, April 10 at Linfield College in McMinnville, Ore. Action gets underway at 10 a.m. (PDT).
