Willamette to Host Puget Sound at McCulloch Stadium

Bearcats are 7-2 on the Season, 3-2 in the Northwest Conference

SALEM, ORE. -- The Willamette University Bearcats, 7-2 overall and 3-2 in the Northwest Conference, will host the University of Puget Sound, 0-8 overall and 0-5 in the NWC, at McCulloch Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 10 in the final game of the regular season. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. (PST).

You can follow all of the action between Willamette and the Loggers through a Live Video Webcast on the Bearcat Network. Willamette is averaging 345.1 passing yards per game to rank #8 in NCAA Division III. The Bearcats have gained an impressive 489.9 total yards per game, which ranks 13th in the nation.

Quarterback Josh Dean (Jr., Dana Point, CA/Dana Hills HS) has already set Willamette’s single season records for passes completed (240) and attempted (373), as well as passing yards (2,987) and touchdowns (30) in one season (30). He is #6 in the NCAA with 331.9 passing yards per game and is tied for 7th with 26.7 completions per game.

Top targets for Dean have been senior wide receivers Jake Knecht (Issaquah, WA/Skyline HS/Illinois State Univ.) and Jake Turner (Ontario, OR/Ontario HS). Knecht leads the Bearcats with 51 receptions, including 10 touchdown catches, while gaining 705 yards. Turner has achieved a team-high 713 yards on 44 catches. He has scored five touchdowns.

Benny Weischedel (Sr., TE, San Pedro, CA/San Pedro HS) has hauled in 39 passes for 606 yards and five TDs. Terrell Malley (Jr., HB, Portland, OR/Roosevelt HS) has caught 30 passes for 309 yards.

Dylan Jones (So., RB, Santa Maria, CA/Ernest Righetti HS) leads the team in rushing with 151 carries for 662 yards and seven scores. He achieved a season-high 168 yards on 24 carries against Lewis & Clark. Malley follows with 249 yards on 32 carries (7.8 avg.).

The Willamette defense has intercepted 17 passes. Cody Pastorino (Sr., S, Glenn, CA/Willows HS) leads the squad with 5 interceptions, while Tyson Giza (Jr., CB, Salem, OR/Sprague HS) and Dominic David (Sr., S, Salem, OR/South Salem, HS/Portland State Univ.) each have four. Giza picked off two passes last week at Pacific.

Jack Nelson (So., ILB, Portland, OR/Jesuit HS) has recorded 65 total tackles to lead the WU defense. Cullen Carroll (Sr., OLB, Petaluma, CA/St. Vincent de Paul HS) is second with 57 tackles, including a team-high 44 solo stops. Ben Lyons (Sr., DE, Anchorage, AK/South Anchorage HS) has earned 54 tackles and a team-high 8.5 sacks.
