Greenberg and Engstrom Earn Throws on WU's Top 10 List at Lane Preview
Faulhaber, Briggs Combine for 1-2 Finish in Men's Hammer
EUGENE, ORE. -- Willamette athletes Taryn Greenberg (So., Newport Beach, CA/Corona Del Mar HS) and Kelsey Engstrom (So., Clinton, WA/South Whidbey HS) each registered distances in the women's hammer throw that placed them on Willamette's Top 10 list, as they finished second and fourth, respectively, at the Lane Preview on Friday, March 8.
Greenberg tossed the hammer 132' 3" to move into sixth place all-time at WU, while Engstrom achieved a top throw of 130' 6" to take over seventh place on the list.
Hanna Person from Lane Community College won the women's hammer throw with a distance of 145' 8".
Events held on Friday were the men's and women's competition in the hammer throw, discus, shot put and javelin. The remaining field events and all of the running events will be held on Saturday, March 9.
In the men's hammer throw, Max Faulhaber (Jr., Eugene, OR/Sheldon HS) and Wyatt Briggs (Sr., Scio, OR/Scio HS) achieved a 1-2 finish for the Bearcats. Faulhaber won the event with a throw of 168' 0", while Briggs took second place at 164' 9".
Jossalyn Wright (So., Aumsville, OR/Cascade HS) of Willamette achieved a personal record with a throw of 117' 5", as she earned second place in the women's discus. Madison Seaman of Lane CC won the discus with a top mark of 130' 1".
Briggs added a fourth place finish in the men's discus. He produced a top throw of 136' 1" (41.49 meters) to narrowly edge out Paul Bentz from Lane CC, who took fifth place. Bentz also registered a toss of 136' 1", but his distance was officially 41.47 meters, two centimeters shorter than the top distance for Briggs. William Kunkle of Lane CC took first place at 154' 7".
In the men's shot put, Briggs claimed fourth place at 41' 2.25" and teammate Tyler Higley (So., Aloha, OR/Aloha HS) gained fifth place at 40' 5". Michael Ruppert from Southern Oregon University attained first place with a throw of 44' 11.50".
Joelle Swanson of Oregon Institute of Technology won the women's javelin throw with a top distance of 132' 8". She was followed by Jameka Townsend (Fr., Okanogan, WA/Okanogan HS) of Willamette in second place at 127' 2".
On Saturday, field events will begin at 10:45 a.m. (PST). Running events will get underway at 11 a.m.
