Bearcat Rowing Teams Compete at Governor's Cup Regatta
TACOMA, ORE. -- The Willamette University rowing teams competed at the Governor's Cup Regatta on Saturday, March 16 at American Lake. University of Puget Sound, which hosted the regatta, took first place in the overall men's and women's team standings. In addition to Willamette and Puget Sound, Lewis & Clark College also participated.
Puget Sound won three men's events and three women's events.
The Loggers won the men's varsity 8+ with a winning time of 7:24.3. UPS also prevailed in the men's novice 4+ in 8:33.3 and the men's varsity pair in 8:38.3.
Puget Sound triumphed in the women's varsity 8+ in 7:52.5, as the Loggers won by just under eight seconds over Lewis & Clark, which finished in second at 7:57.3. Willamette was third in 8:19.7.
UPS took first place in the combined women's varsity 8+/women's novice 8+ with a time of 8:47.3. The Loggers also finished first in the women's novice 4+ at 9:34..8.
In addition to placing third in the women's varsity 8+, Willamette also took fourth place in both the men's varsity 4+ and the women's varsity 4+. The WU men's four earned a time of 8:22.5. The Bearcat women's four was timed at 10:17.9.
Willamette's next scheduled competition is set for Saturday, March 30, when the Bearcats will row at the Cascade Sprints, also set for American Lake. The regatta is slated to get underway at 8 a.m. (PDT).
