Willamette Falls to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at Pacific Coast Classic
Bearcats Set to Battle Pomona-Pitzer
CLAREMONT, CALIF. -- Three Claremont-Mudd-Scripps players registered 10 kills apiece as the Athenas defeated Willamette University, 3-0, on the second day of the Pacific Coast Classic on Saturday, Aug. 31. CMS improved to 3-0 on the season and 3-0 in the tournament, while Willamette dropped to 1-2 overall, 1-2 in the tournament.
Nicole Kerkhof, Audrey Breitwieser and Regina Mullen each provided Claremont-Mudd-Scripps with 10 kills. Quinn Morrison added six kills for the Athenas, who earned a .210 team hitting percentage. Tanner Hoke accumulated 34 assists for CMS.
Shannon Waltz (Sr., MH, Honolulu, HI/La Pietra School for Girls) paced the Bearcats by earning five kills and a .308 hitting percentage. She also recorded four block assist, helping Willamette attain 16 block assists and 9.0 team total blocks.
Carly Hargrave (Sr., MH, Happy Valley, OR/Clackamas HS), Lindsey Compton (So., OH/S, Portola, CA/Portola HS/Univ. of Hartford) and Alida Holt (Fr., OH, Honolulu, HI/Roosevelt HS) each contributed four kills for Willamette. Senior setter Emily Compton (Portola, CA/Portola HS/Boise State Univ.) achieved 17 assists and a team-high eight digs.
Willamette recorded a .174 hitting percentage and committed just 10 errors on 86 total attacks. CMS finished with 105 total attacks and held a 43-25 edge in kills. WU limited CMS to just 3.0 team total blocks, but the Athenas countered with a 51-25 advantage in digs, led by Megan Coleman with 20 defensive stops.
The Bearcats will conclude the Pacific Coast Classic by playing at Pomona-Pitzer in Claremont, Calif., at 4:30 p.m. (PDT) on Saturday. The match can be viewed through the Pomona-Pitzer Webcast. In addition, Live Stats will be available.
