Levy Holds Second Place after First Day of Warner Pacific Invitational

Willamette Women's Golf Team is Second in Team Standings

PORTLAND, ORE. -- Elise Levy (So., Reno, NV/Bishop Manogue HS) of Willamette University shot a 36-hole score of 155 for second place at the end of the first day of the Warner Pacific Invitational on Monday, Oct. 7 at the Glendoveer Golf Course. Bolstered by Levy's solid play, the Bearcats were second in the team standings at 665.

Sunny Powers of Concordia University (Ore.) shot 76-77 for a total of 153 on the first day, as she earned a two-stroke lead. Levy carded 80-75 to nearly keep pace with Powers. Levy's 75 over the second 18 holes was the low round of the day for any of the 36 golfers competing.

Following Powers and Levy was Baylee Borchers from College of Idaho in third place after shooting 158 (81-77). Haley Partridge of Northwest Christian University and Kelsey Whiles of Concordia each shot 159 and were tied for fourth. Partridge registered 80-79 and Whiles shot 81-78.

Levy was one of three Bearcats among the top 12 scorers on Monday. Mckenzie Weinhold (Jr., Placerville, CA/El Dorado HS/Univ. of Nevada-Reno) finished the day at 168 (83-85) and owned 10th place in the standings. Taneesh Sra (So., Fremont, CA/Mission San Jose HS) was 12th with a score of 170 (86-84).

Also participating for Willamette were LettaJoe Gallup (Jr., Alameda, CA/Holy Names HS) and Jessi Weaver (Fr., Lincoln City, OR/Taft HS). Gallup carded a 36-hole score of 172 (85-87), while Weaver finished the day at 174 (87-87).

Concordia led the team standings with a score of 636 (319-317). Willamette's second place score of 665 included 334 in the first round and 331 in the second round. WU was in third place after 18-holes and trailed College of Idaho by a single stroke, but the Bearcats made up seven strokes in the second round. College of Idaho dropped to third at 671 (333-338).

Corban University was fourth at 701 (352-349), with Warner Pacific College (Ore.) in fifth at 732 (372-360) and Northwest Christian in sixth at 746 (375-371). Oregon Institute of Technology concluded the day in seventh place at 782 (398-384).

The tournament will conclude with the third and final round of action on Tuesday, Oct. 8.
