Shane Wibel has been with Willamette University since 2002. During the fall, he works primarily with the the WU football team. Wibel completed his undergraduate work at Western Oregon University, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education. He then went to Oregon State University and earned a Master of Public Health. Prior to arriving at Willamette, he spent two seasons as the head athletic trainer for the Seattle Thunderbirds Hockey Team. Wibel lives in Silverton with his wife, Tirza, and their two daughters, Mira and Annah. |

Erin Scharer began working as a Willamette University athletic trainer in 2004. She also started her studies to become a Certified Athletic Trainer at Willamette, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science with a major in Exercise Science. After completing her bachelor's degree, she went to Oregon State University to complete a Master of Science degree in Human Performance. She worked as an athletic training at Concordia University for one year, then returned to Willamette University. Her husband, Kevin, also works in Salem as a teacher at Leslie Middle School. The Scharers have a son, Noah, who was born in November of 2006. |

Ken Smith, ATC, formerly an athletic trainer with PT Northwest, started working full-time at Willamette as an assistant athletic trainer in 2007. He works with all 20 of Willamette’s athletic teams.
Smith graduated magna cum laude from Southern Oregon University in 1984 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education. He received a Master of Science degree in Exercise and Sport Sciences with an Athletic Training concentration from the University of Arizona in 1985.
He was an assistant athletic trainer at Northeastern University in Boston, Mass., in 1985-86 and was employed as an assistant athletic trainer at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces from 1986-89. He returned to Oregon in 1989 as the head football athletic trainer and an assistant athletic trainer at the University of Oregon. Smith worked with the Ducks until 1998, when he became an assistant athletic trainer with the Seattle Seahawks of the National Football League until May, 2005.
Smith, originally from St. Helens, Ore., and his wife, Karla, have two children. Their son, Kaarsten, is eight years old and their daughter, Kallan, is five years old. The Smiths live in Keizer, Ore. |
