Aaron Swick is in his fifth season as the head coach of the Willamette baseball team. He has guided the Bearcats to an overall record of 73-79-1 (.480), including 21-17 in 2009 and 22-17-1 in 2011. WU has been .500 or better in four of Swick's five seasons in the competitive Northwest Conference.

Swick’s teams have finished the season strong. In 2009, the Bearcats were 16-6 in the final 22 games. In 2010, WU was 7-4 in its last 11 contests, and in 2011 the Bearcats went 13-5-1 to end the year.

Swick, who served as the Willamette pitching coach and baseball recruiting coordinator in 2006 and 2007, became head coach in September of 2008.

He has coached two All-Americans. Kyle Stalker was Third Team All-America at first base twice (AFCA ‘08, D3baseball.com ‘09) and belted 53 homers in his career. This year, Mitchell Rowan is a Preseason All-America pick after batting .403 with 12 homers in 2010, when he was named First Team All-Region. Rowan was chosen Preseason All-America last year, but missed most of the season with an injury.

Swick has improved John Lewis Field. In 2009, a new warning track was installed and the infield was laser-leveled. Players benefit from an updated clubhouse and new benches in the dugouts. In addition, there is a workout room for pitchers, a new windscreen, a catcher’s area in the bullpens and an updated hitting facility.

Prior to returning to Willamette, Swick was an assistant coach with the Green Bay Bullfrogs of the Northwoods League in the summers of 2007 and 2008.

Also in 2007-08, Swick was the pitching coach and recruiting coordinator at South Dakota State University. In addition to his coaching duties, Swick received a master’s degree in Sports Pedagogy from SDSU.

In 2006, Swick was interim head coach for the Wilson Tobs (Coastal Plain League). In six years with collegiate and summer league teams, he has coached 31 players who advanced to professional baseball.

Swick was a pitcher at Saddleback College and the University of California-Berkeley. At Saddleback, he was All-Conference once and reached regionals twice. At Cal, he had a 1.86 ERA as a senior. He earned a B.S. degree in Political Science in 2005.

Swick and his wife, Heather, live in Salem with their daughter, Sadie.
