J. Jay Davis is in his first season as a member of the Willamette University men's basketball coaching staff. Prior to coming to Willamette, he was the Head Coach at Skyline High School in Sammamish, Wash., for five seasons, where he amassed a 77-43 record and won three consecutive King County Division titles. He also led the team to Skyline's first conference championship and first State placement in the school's 16 year history.

During his last three seasons at Skyline, the Spartan teams were in the top two in Class 4A in the entire state in points allowed per game. His previous coaching positions were as the lead assistant coach at Tacoma Community College and at Eastside Catholic High School, along with a two-year stint as Head Coach at The Bush School, a private kindergarten through 12th grade school in Seattle, Wash.

As a player, Davis was the product of three Hall of Fame coaches. His high school coach was inducted in the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association Hall of Fame, his community college coach is an NWAACC Hall of Famer, and his head coach at Eastern Montana University (now Montana State University-Billings) has won three NCAA championships, joining a list that includes John Wooden, Mike Krzyzewski, Adolph Rupp, Bobby Knight, and Jim Calhoun as coaches who have won three or more National Championships in NCAA history.
