Damian Williams is in his 14th season as the head softball coach at Willamette University. He has achieved a 267-204 (.567) overall record at WU and has led the Bearcats to a 194-130 (.590) mark in the Northwest Conference.
In 2011, the Bearcats went 16-9 in the final 25 games to overcome a slow start and finish the season at 19-19. Willamette went 16-12 in the NWC and qualified for the NWC Softball Tournament.
Williams led the Bearcats to six straight 20-win seasons from 2005-10. WU has achieved a record of 164-94 (.739) over the past seven years.
Williams was selected NWC Coach of the Year in 2000, after leading the Bearcats to a 25-10 overall record and a second place tie in the NWC at 15-6. The 2000 team led the nation with an impressive 0.76 earned run average and was ranked #5 in the West Region.
The success of the 2000 team shows how much the team improved after Williams arrived. In 1998, the year before he took over, the Bearcats were 5-33. Two seasons later, WU was the most-improved squad in NCAA Division III in 2000, up 16 games from 1999 and 21.5 games from 1998.
Prior to joining the Willamette coaching staff for the 1999 season, Williams was the head coach at Shoreline Community College in Seattle for four years. Williams gradually improved the team, which went 25-12 in 1998 on its way to qualifying for the NWAACC Tournament.
Williams graduated from Seattle Pacific University in 1995. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and Sports Administration. Williams resides in Salem with his wife, Genesis, and his newborn son, Everson.
