The University Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Hekun Wu, will present its fall concert on Thursday, November 19, 2009 at 7:30p.m. in Hudson Hall.

The Orchestra will present three well-known works of all time: J.S. Bach’s “Air” from the Orchestral Suite No. 3 in D major, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7 in A major, Op. 92 and Mahler’s "Kindertotenlieder" with faculty soloist, mezzo-soprano Allison Swensen-Mitchell. In his song cycle, Mahler so poignantly sets five of Friedrich Rückert’s poems about love, loss, and acceptance. The Symphony No. 7 caps Beethoven’s “heroic” period and is truly an electrifying, stirring and inspired work. Beethoven himself considered it to be one of his best. This semester, the students have been mentored by Willamette faculty members and musicians from the Oregon Symphony and Portland Opera Orchestra.
