Smith Auditorium
$5 Adults; $2 Students with I.D.
The Willamette University Music Department presents the Willamette Singers in
their final performance this year for a night of vocal jazz on Friday, April
16th at 7:30 pm. The concert will feature guest performances by South Salem
High School’s Southernaires directed by Carol Stenson and Sprague High
School’s Framework directed by David Brown. The Willamette Singers will
continue in their long standing tradition of presenting a broad variety of
literature in many different contemporary and swing era styles. Some of the
literature of note in this performance will include the well-known jazz
standards “I’m Beginning To See the Light” in a typical swing style, and
“You’re Makin’ Me Crazy” arranged in a New Orleans street beat
version. The Willamette Singers is a 18-member vocal jazz ensemble, along with
an instrumental combo consisting of piano, double bass, and drums. The
Singers’ thirteenth CD, “Come Rain or Come Shine,” was released in the
fall of 2009. Proceeds from this concert will go to support this season’s
recording project. Several members of the Willamette Singers from the Salem
area and Willamette Valley will be performing in this concert: Stephen Branch
and Kate Thurber from South Salem High School, Jordan Miller from Sprague High
School, Natalie Yonkman from West Salem High School, and Christiana Zollner
and Taylor Buchheit from Silverton High School in Mt. Angel, OR.
