Music for an Abbey
| The chorus will travel to Mount Angel Abbey to perform special “Music for an
Abbey” on May 4 at 3:00 p.m. and May 18 at 3:00 p.m. For these concerts the
Master Chorus will present three different compositions based on the Marian
text “Magnificat" (My Soul Magnifies the Lord). The first from the Monteverdi
"Vespers" in Latin, will be performed with strings, organ, recorders and
sackbuts (early version of the trombone). The second is a cantata by Georg
Philip Telemann in German “Meine Seele erhebt den Herrn” with strings, organ
and oboes. The third setting in English is by composer, Charles Stanford with
organ. Other works will include compositions by living composers Arvo Part and
Eric Whitacre. |
