The Salem Society of the Archaeological Institute of America was chartered in December 1995 at the AIA Annual Meeting in San Diego. The purpose of the Salem Society is to provide local membership to individuals who share a passion for archaeology and its role in furthering human knowledge, and to offer educational opportunities that serve to foster and enhance interest in the significance of archaeological discovery. All operations of the Salem Society are consistent with the values and policies of the Archaeological Institute of America.
