Willamette Academy, a program designed to help prepare high school students
for college academics, recently was awarded a $75,000 grant, said executive
director Elaine Green.
The Lumina Foundation for Education awarded Willamette Academy the money to
support curriculum development for 11th- and 12thgrade students in the program.
The funds will be used for SAT/ACT preparation,, writing improvement and college
preparation skills. The Lumina Foundation for Education is based in Indianapolis
and was founded to expand access and success in education beyond high school.
Willamette Academy was created in 2001 as a supplemental education program
for under-represented and lowincome students.
Located on the Willamette University campus, it identifies students who have
the academic potential for college but for various reasons are considered atrisk
for dropping out.
The academy is self-supporting, and tuition is free.
