Willamette Academy is a five-year supplemental education/college access program that works with 8th-12th grade students in the Salem/Keizer School District. Our mission is to empower youth who have the desire and potential to advance to higher education, targeting those who are historically underrepresented in colleges and universities. Students are nominated by their middle school teachers at the end of the seventh grade. Each year, the Academy selects approximately 25 seventh-grade students from approximately 120 applicants.

The program is designed to address the factors that bar talented students from attending college. We understand that what happens in the classroom is only a very small aspect affecting our students’ success. To that end we offer daily study hall sessions staffed with tutors, academic tracking and mentoring, and study skills and academic classes. We also strive to create a strong relationship with our students’ teachers and schools in the Salem/Keizer school district.

For our students to be truly successful we need Willamette University students willing to devote their time, attention, academic expertise, and experience with our students.
