Fall Semester 2005

PSYC 370 (AR) Topics in Psychology: Psychological Tests and Measurements (1)
This course will examine the construction, evaluation, and use of psychological measurement tools, including surveys and questionnaires as well as standardized measures of cognitive performance, personality, interests, and attitudes. The course will focus specifically on how one produces and evaluates evidence that a measurement device assesses the attribute it claims to (construct validity) with a limited amount of error (reliability). The course will also focus heavily on the practical, ethical, and legal issues accompanying the widespread use of psychological tests in clinical, educational, and employment contexts. This course is particularly appropriate as preparation for people pursuing interests in educational, therapeutic, human resources, and marketing settings. Prerequisite: PSYC 210 and a college level course in statistics (e.g., PSYC 252, MATH 138, ECON 230, SOC 301) or consent of instructor. Analyzing Arguments, Reasons, and Values. Fall. Friedrich
