REL 224 Early Christianity (.5)
A historical reconstruction of early Christianity with special attention to the Acts of the Apostles as a historical source. The course will explore contemporary theories of early Christian social formation and investigate the missionary movement within the religious context of the Roman Empire. The transformation of Christianity from a Jewish sect to a Gentile religion after the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 CE will also be studied.
