3. Give the Latin for:

4. Transform these English sentences from active to passive:
(a) Our fleet did not capture the ship.
= The ship was not captured by our fleet.
(b) A messenger announced the news to Verres.
= The news was announced to Verres by a messenger.
(c) The sailors brought the ship to Syracuse.
= The ship was brought to Syracuse by the sailors.
(d) Verres took away the craftsmen.
= The craftsmen were taken away by Verres.
(e) The Romans executed the pirates with an axe.
= The pirates were executed by the Romans with an axe.

5. Translate these sentences:
(a) Nothing had been said by Verres.
(b) The ship was captured by a pirate.
(c) The young men are sent to Rome by Verres.
(d) The ship of the pirates was lead away / appropriated by us.
(e) My treasure will be given to (my) friends.
(f) It was reported to Verres that a ship had been captured and that the pirates were being
executed with an axe.

6. Transform these sentences from active to passive:
(a) Romani homines defendebant.
= Homines a Romanis defendebantur.
