1. Translate these sentences:
(a) It happens that Servilius talks a little bit too freely about the wickedness / vileness of Verres.
(b) Verres brought it about that Servilius went to Lilybaeum.
(c) It happened that Servilius, when he had reached Lilybaeum, was beaten by the lictors.
(d) When Gavius was in chains in Syracuse, he said that he would manage to escape and reach Messana.
(e) Verres will bring it about that Roman citizens will be killed.

2. Prefix each of these sentences with perficiam ut (following rules for primary sequence) and accidit ut (following rules for secondary sequence). ... Translate the new sentences:

(a) Perficiam ut Verres Lilybaeum adeat.
= I shall bring it about that Verres comes to Lilybaeum.
Accidit ut Verres Lilybaeum adiret.
= It happened that Verres came to Lilybaeum.
(b) Perficiam ut vir a lictoribus caedatur.
= I shall bring it about that the man is beaten by the lictors.
Accidit ut vir a lictoribus caederetur.
= It happened that the / a man was beaten by the lictors.
(c) Perficiam ut servi eum ad terram abiciant.
= I shall bring it about that the slaves throw him to the ground.
Accidit ut servi eum ad terram abicerent.
= It happened that the slaves threw him to the ground.
(d) Perficiam ut verberibus moriatur.
= I shall bring it about that he dies of the blows.
Accidit ut verberibus moreretur.
= It happened that he died of the blows.
(e) Perficiam ut socii Romam perfugiant.
= I shall bring it about that the allies escape to Rome.
Accidit ut socii Romam perfugerent.
= It happened that the allies escaped to Rome.
