Professor McCreery is an internationally renowned Near Eastern
archaeologist and paleobotanist. Currently, he serves as Co-Director
of the Tell Nimrin Excavation
in Jordan. The founding President of the Salem
Society of the Archaeological Institute of America and a former
Director of the American Center of Oriental Research (ACOR) in Amman
(1981-88), he has participated in numerous excavations, most notably
at Bâb edh-Dhrâ` and Numeira (Jordan).
Professor McCreery maintains an archaeological
lab on campus where he works with his students on recent finds.
His interests in Classical Studies include Syro-Palestinian archaeology,
Old Testament history and Hebrew. A member of the Willamette faculty
since 1988, he is the Willamette University Professor of the Year
2000 and the recipient of a Faculty Achievement Award for Service
2003.
In 2003, Professor McCreery was
also honored with the most prestigous national teaching award in
Archaeology, the Award for Excellency in Undergraduate Teaching
of the Archaeological Institute of America.
