OREGON UNDERGRADUATE CONFERENCE IN CLASSICS (OUCC)

at Willamette University, Salem, OR,
Eaton Hall, 2nd floor

Saturday, April 12, 2008

Willamette's Eaton Hall, site of the conference
CALL FOR PAPERS
The Classical Studies Program at Willamette University in Salem, Oregon, is hosting a one-day undergraduate conference. We envision this conference as a day in which talented undergraduates will present their work on any aspect of the ancient world, perhaps their BA thesis, in a 20-minute talk to an audience of undergraduates and their faculty mentors.

A catered buffet breakfast and lunch will be provided to all participants, and audio-visual facilities will be available.

By MARCH 13, 2008, interested students should electronically submit an abstract that provides the following information:
• name,
• email address,
• name and email of the supporting faculty member,
• any audio-visual needs (Powerpoint, video, slide projector),
• the title of their talk,
• a 300-word description of their talk (to be published in the program).

Further information will be posted on the website of the Willamette University Classical Studies Program (http://www.willamette.edu/cla/classics), or you may contact Prof. Mary R. Bachvarova (mbachvar@willamette.edu).

DIRECTIONS
Coming from I-5 (North or South)

1. Take the Highway 22 exit (number 253).
2. At the first light, head west (a left turn for those coming from the south, a right when coming from the north).
3. Stay on Highway 22 for about 1.5 miles.
4. As you pass 17th Street, you will start up an overpass.
5. At the top of this overpass there is an exit to the right.
6. Take this exit (Willamette University is indicated on the sign).
7. Keep left as the exit divides.
8. After passing through the stoplight, you will be on Bellevue Street. You will see a Willamette University sign and entrance to the right. Pass by, and continue to the next stoplight, at Winter Street.
9. Turn right on Winter Street, then pull into the Guest Parking lot immediately on the right or, if you would like to get closer to the conference, continue on Winter Street, then turn right onto State Street. Park anywhere on that block (free on weekends).

.
Eaton Hall directly faces the Oregon State Capitol, the white marble building with the golden pioneer on top. Enter the campus from State Street through the brick gateposts and proceed through the rose garden straight along the path to Eaton Hall. If the doors facing State Street are for some reason not unlocked, proceed to the other side of the building to the opposite set of double doors.

The conference lectures will be held on the second floor of Eaton Hall. The building is wheelchair accessible from the quad/campus side of the building. Once you enter the building, keep right and turn right into one of the smaller office hallways where you'll find the elevator that will bring you up to the second floor.
