NOTICE: You may be exempt from this exam

1. If you have never taken German before (or took it for one semester or less), you are not required to complete this exam. You should register for German 131 (Elementary German).
2. If you scored a 4 or 5 on the AP exam, you are not required to complete this exam. Even though you have already satisfied the Language requirement, you are encouraged to continue your studies of German by enrolling in GERM 331 (Composition and Discussion).

Please do not use books or other sources for this exam, as they will give a false indication of your present command of German. You may be incorrectly placed due to the skewed results.

You do not have a time limit so relax and do your best. If you are unsure of an answer, but have a “gut” feeling, intelligent guessing is encouraged. Remember that we do not expect you to know the answers to all of the questions.
