Language Requirement For The Bachelor Of Arts Degree

There will be three ways of satisfying the Language Requirement:

  1. Complete the fourth semester (L232) or higher of a foreign language course with a minimum grade of "C-"; or pass an examination demonstrating the equivalent of two years of college language study (e.g. achieve a minimum score of 4 on the AP exam; pass a challenge exam administered by the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures; or present evidence of a primary language other than English to the Registrar's Office.)
  2. Complete the third semester of a foreign language course (L231) with a minimum grade of C-, plus one semester of a course that normally deals with the culture or literature of the language studied (possibly taught in English), or with linguistics.
  3. Complete the second semester (or higher) of a foreign language course (L132) with a minimum grade of C-, plus one additional semester of intensive study abroad in that language (if a program can be found that meets the needs of the student)
