In addition to the support students receive from faculty, Willamette University provides the following additional academic support services.

The Learning Commons

The 1st floor of Ford Hall has been redesigned as the Learning Commons. The location provides 24/7 space in which students can engage in collaborative study or find a quiet corner for individual work.

Three programs that support student success are located in the Learning Commons: Academic Support (formerly the Learning Center) the Digital Learning Studio, and the Writing Center. Contact any of the program directors for details, or email academicsupport@willamette.edu.

Academic Support (academicsupport@willamette.edu/503-370-6505), located in the Learning Commons in Ford Hall, offers students help in understanding academic expectations and how to meet them. Individual consultations are available for improvement of study strategies and time management. Individual tutoring and group study sessions are also arranged, free to the student.

The Digital Learning Studio (digital-learning-studio@willamette.edu/503-375-5492), located in the Learning Commons in Ford Hall, is a place where students can come for language learning resources, technology help, international events or just a quiet study environment. The Studio is an area of campus dedicated to language exposure and cultural experience.

The Writing Center (503-370-6959), located in the Learning Commons in Ford Hall, offers 1-on-1 consultations with writers on any piece of writing and at all phases of composition. They emphasize a conversational model where the writer sets the agenda and also provide guidance on using online and print resources.

Additional Centers and Services include:

Accessible Education Services (formerly Disabilities Services) (503-370-6737), located in Matthews 103, facilitates accommodations for students with permanent disabilities or temporary medical conditions. They assist students in obtaining appropriate documentation of a disability, developing accommodation plans, facilitating non-classroom accommodation, supporting skill development in self-advocacy and independence, assisting with problem solving, and facilitating access to resources.

The QUAD Center (Quantitative Understanding, Analysis and Design), located in Smullin 244, provides support related to quantitative activities and assignments associated with courses ranging from introductory classes to senior thesis projects. The Center focuses both on kinds of basic mathematics central to academic and civic literacy and on research design and statistical issues arising in a broad range of disciplines across the liberal arts.

Career Services (career-services@willamette.edu/503-370-6413), located in Matthews 102, helps students with career decisions, linking them to resources and helping them to launch job searches. They will meet with students 1-on-1 to help address issues such as re-defining academic major, negotiating change, and locating sources of support. They will also discuss career issues and assist in developing a job search plan.

Counseling Services and the Bishop Wellness Center (503-370-6471), located in Baxter Hall, offers psychological counseling to assist individual students dealing with personal crises, anxiety, stress, social and academic transitions, family relations, alcohol and other drug problems, and other issues of concern.  All counseling services are free and confidential.  Several 20 minute, walk-in solution focused appointments are also offered to students every day.  Lastly, students are encouraged to use the free "Mind Spa", which includes a reclining leather massage chair, a full spectrum "Happy Light", and a computer based biofeedback program where students can learn to moderate their stress response through several interactive video games. Students may also access to 24/7 crisis telephone counseling support by calling WUTalk at 503-375-5353.
