Dear Colleagues:

Willamette University is pleased to invite you and your students to participate in a “Free Tournament” on Friday, December 4 and Saturday, December 5, 2009.  The tournament is “free” in the sense that we will not charge any entry or participation fees. However, we do require that all schools either bring sufficient judges to cover their entries.  Because the tournament does not charge entry fees, we not offer trophies or food.  We will offer simple certificates for students advancing to elimination debates.

Our primary motivation for hosting this tournament is because the Portland State University British Parliamentary tournament on the same weekend was cancelled leaving a gap in the opportunities for students wanting to compete in British Parliamentary Debate.  So while our motivation is to cover this gap in BP debate, we have decided to offer AP as well.  Thus, we will offer an open and a novice/junior division in both American and British Parliamentary debate.  If there are insufficient entries in novice/junior, we will combine the divisions. 

If at all possible, we would line to have an indication of interest before you leave for Thanksgiving break.  We are setting the final entry deadline for Monday, November 31. 

We hope to see you and your students at Willamette University in December.
