Planters Peanuts enduring
advertising symbol, Mr. Peanut, was created by a Virginia
schoolboy as part of a 1916 drawing competition. Antonio Gentile
of Suffolk, Virginia received $5 for his winning entry.
When the popular board
game Scrabble was invented in 1931, it was called
Lexico. Inventor Alfred M. Butts then switched the name
to Criss-Cross Words. In 1948, James Brunot, a friend
a Mr. Butts, copyrighted the name as Scrabble.
Union Pacific's stock
has been included in the Dow Jones Transportation Average
since the index was created more than a century ago.
