Research

Saghar Sadeghian, Ph.D., works on the history of the Modern Middle East. She is particularly interested in two topics: First, the history of race, religion, and ethnicity in the Middle East, specifically in the 19th-20th centuries, Iran. In her teaching and research, she looks at the position of minority groups in diversity, citizenship/non-citizenship, social movements, and democratic electoral bodies such as parliaments. Sadeghian is preparing her manuscript titled Iranian Non-Muslim Communities: Navigation and Negotiation of Space during the Constitutional Revolution for publication. Sadeghian’s second project is on environmental history, especially the history of the Caspian Littoral forests. She studies the role of forests in the culture, economy, and politics of Iranian society.

Saghar Sadeghian also serves as the associate director of Yale Iranian History Internet Archives (YIHA). Currently, she is transcribing, annotating, and digitizing the Ghani Collection at Yale. https://ghani.macmillan.yale.edu
