Application Procedures
In order to establish an internship for academic credit
at Willamette University, you must complete the following
steps:
1. Determine what kind of internship experience is
appropriate to complement your academic program (e.g.,
political, social service, environmental, journalistic).
2. Consult a faculty member in the appropriate department
or special program to determine if the internship
opportunity of your choice is available and what
requirements must be met.
3. Determine which faculty member in the appropriate
department or special program will serve as the on-campus
supervisor. Work with that faculty member to define the
internship and determine whether course prerequisites have
been met and how it will be evaluated for assigning the
grade.
4. Determine who will serve as off-campus supervisor (the
person to whom you will report and who will provide an
evaluation of your work).
5. Arrange a meeting with the two supervisors to
clarify:
- the nature of your intern responsibilities;
- the expectations of both supervisors;
- the manner of evaluating the internship;
- and the number of academic credits to be received for
the internship (normally an internship will lead to one
academic credit)
6. Complete the Willamette University Internship
Application form and return it to the Office of the
Associate Dean, College of Liberal Arts (Smullin 108).
7. Check your total credit load with the addition of the
internship. Additional fees are charged for over 4 1/2
credits (in some cases 4 3/4).
