Sarah Viens

Sarah Viens is Principal Trumpet of the Eugene Symphony and the Newport Symphony and is the newly appointed Instructor of Trumpet at Willamette University. Sarah also plays regularly with the Oregon Brass Quintet.  Sarah has also performed with the Oregon Bach Festival Orchestra under conductor Helmuth Rilling. Other festivals in which Sarah has appeared include The Astoria Music Festival, Spoleto USA, The Symphony Orchestra Academy of the Pacific, Bar Harbor Brass and the Summer Brass Institute at the Menlo School.

A diverse performer, Sarah plays throughout the Oregon region in a variety of genres and also commissions and premiers new works for ensembles such as the Eugene Contemporary Chamber Ensemble (ECCE) and BrassWindows, an innovative brass quintet which Sarah founded in 2007.

Sarah currently holds the position of Graduate Teaching Fellow in Trumpet at the University of Oregon where she is working on her Doctorate in Musical Arts with a supporting area in Arts Administration.  As an administrator, she is the curator for Sound-Bytes, a popular, slightly bizarre, contemporary music series in Eugene.

Sarah Viens holds degrees from the Cleveland Institute of Music, B.M., and Temple University, M.M., and has studied with distinguished teachers such as Brian McWhorter, Michael Sachs, David Bilger, and James Darling.
