A Voyage
Artist's Statement
The concept of this music is the sea; this is a story of a voyage. I express various conditions of the sea, such as calm and stormy waves, and situation of the voyage that hold hopes and fears by creating music. This piece is based on a scale of F major. In section 1, a main theme, the idea A, represents the vast expanse of the sea and hopes for a voyage, while the idea B shows anxiety and fears. There is a short transition of a scale with F major in order to go back to the idea A. In section 2, I expressed the violent storm and rough seas. As a transition, the sound of waves takes a very important role because it means the silence and calm before the storm. In the middle, the melody of the idea A is coming; it is interesting because it is kind of chaotic music. I brought the melody of the idea B, which expresses a situation where the sky finally cleared and leads to section 3. The melody of the idea A and B play again but at this time, there are several differences. Now the sea is back to regular conditions. The crews must weather a storm next time, too. The voyage still continues even if surprise and difficulty await them. That is the story of my piece.
