Student Evaluation of the Philosophy Program

For accreditation purposes, the Philosophy Department asks every graduating senior to submit an evaluation of the Philosophy Program. Please read and complete the following form at the end of your last semester at Willamette (for most majors, that will be around the time you submit the final draft of your thesis). Thanks!

Department Goals

The goals of the Philosophy Department are to teach students:

  1. to think critically, uncovering and evaluating the presuppositions upon which various ways of looking at the world depend;
  2. to write clearly and coherently, with special attention to constructing and evaluating their own and others' arguments;
  3. to appreciate perennial philosophical questions about truth, knowledge, morality, art, and religion as well as the ways philosophers have asked and answered them.

Questions

How well do you believe the Philosophy Department has met its goals in your case? Please address each of the goals specifically.

Do you have any suggestions for how the Philosophy Major might be improved?
