It is highly recommended that the curriculum contain at least one year of science outside of biology and chemistry and an elementary statistics course. The basic courses for a major in Environmental Science at WU are a good starting point for those wishing to teach integrated or general science in middle school or high school.
Bio: 125, 110: Biodiversity or Principles of Biology
Bio 255: General Ecology
Chem 115 &116: Intro Chemistry I & II
Chem 230: Environmental Chemistry
Erth 112: Physical Geography
Envr 220: Environmental Systems Under Stress
Erth 110: Physical Geology
A multitude of electives can be chosen in Environmental Science, Earth Science or another science to complement these. In addition, an elementary statistics course (Math 138) and a course in science teaching methods are valuable. A course with a strong research emphasis is also highly recommended (Senior Seminar in Environmental Science is an example).
