| The study of mathematics through grade
12 is changing. The emphasis is on less teacher-talk and more lab
activities, problem solving opportunities and opportunities to look
at connections of mathematics to other disciplines. Assessment is
changing, too, with problem solving and modeling replacing some standard
tests. So both the content and the techniques of the courses you take
here are important. You can choose your math course(s) from among
the following. |
Math 141, 142, or equivalent: Calculus |
Math 251: Foundations of Advanced Math |
Math 253: Linear Algebra |
Math 263: Discrete Math |
Math 356: Number Theory |
Math 366: Optimization |
Math 456: Abstract Algebra |
Math 476: Modern Geometry |
Math 486: Topics for Teachers |
A course or two in Computer Science might be excellent.
Ask whether your choices from the electives present multiple opportunities
for group work and/or peer teaching. Also, either
Math 138
or Math 466
(or both) would provide good background.
