Preparation to teach Physics at the high school level should begin
with the five required courses for a Physics major. They are the
four courses directly following, along with one elective.
Phys 215 & 236: Intro. Physics I &
II |
Phys: 331: Modern Physics |
Phys 335: Thermal Physics |
Phys: 339: Mechanics |
| Physics elective courses that may be especially appealing
for future teachers are Astronomy and Wave Phenomena. The eighth Physics
course for the major would be the senior Research Seminar. |
Phys 210: Astronomy |
Phys 342: Wave Phenomena |
Phys 496: Research Seminar |
| A solid grounding in Mathematics is essential for a
strong Physics background; thus, the following Mathematics course
is required for the major. |
Math 256: Differential Equations |
| Often, teaching Physics at the high school level is
coupled with teaching courses in Mathematics or a second science.
Thus, a future high school Physics teacher in Oregon may want to take
two years of a second science such as Chemistry, Earth Science, or
Computer Science. |
