Professor Hermann received a B.A. degree in speech communication from California State University, Fresno and a B.S. in psychology from Northern Michigan University in Marquette MI. He completed an M.A.(1997) and a Ph.D. (2002) in Social Psychology at The Ohio State University. After teaching at Kalamazoo College for a year, Professor Hermann joined the faculty at Willamette University in 2003. His teaching interests include personality psychology, industrial & organizational psychology, statistics, and social psychology. Most of his research focuses on self-evaluations are maintained and how they are related to interpersonal processes. He has become particularly interested in how people typically perceive others’ evaluations (perceived esteem) and the degree to which many phenomena that are associated with self-esteem can be explained by these social evaluations. He is also conducts research on how to effectively communicate expectations between students and college instructors and how such communication affects classroom outcomes. Click here for his website.
