Joseph Fisher

Joseph Fisher is a native of Texas who until recently lived in Portland, Oregon. Joseph currently resides in Los Angeles with his wife and son. He is a graduate of Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, where he received his BFA in Playwriting. Joseph Fisher spent four years as playwright-in-residence at Stark Raving Theatre, which produced world premieres of his plays Prometheus Bound, Tundra, Cupid & Psyche, and Faust. Us. In 2004, his play In the Canopy of the Forest appeared at the Australian National Playwright's Conference in Adelaide, Australia; He also received a production of his play The New House, a rewriting of Chekhov's The Seagull and, recently, (I Am Still) The Duchess of Malfi an adaptation of John Webster’s play at Artists Repertory Theatre in Portland, and Thunderbird at the Cherry Lane Theatre in New York. Open Fist Theatre in Los Angeles recently staged his new script The Wolf Inside the Fence.

Joseph Fisher’s plays have also been produced at The Center Theater Group, the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Portland Center Stage, The Cherry Lane Theater NYC, Kitchen Dog Theater, Stark Raving Theatre, and Artists Repertory Theater.

He is a recipient of the Playwrights First Award, the Charlotte Woolard Award, and a 2002 grant from the Kennedy Center's Fund for New American Plays, and has been a resident playwright at New Dramatists since 2002.

From 2006 -2008 Joseph Fisher was Staff Writer for The Walt Disney Company, so in addition to playwriting he has also worked as a screenwriter on many feature films including
