Margo van Ummersen is a choreographer, performer, improvisational artist and educator who has been exploring her choreographic process and making dances for over twelve years. She is the founder and artistic director of Rose Hips Dance Company, a contemporary performance group of seven women. Her choreography is known for its highly expressive, uniquely kinesthetic voice.
Collaborating with visual artists, filmmakers, composers and actors, she has created over fifty dances and presented four full evening length works. Margo Ummersen’s background includes extensive theatrical and musical training, performance studies at Naropa Institute and ten years involvement with the contact improvisation community.
She earned her Masters in dance from the University of Oregon in 1992 and is currently on the performing arts faculty at Lane Community College, and she is also on the faculty at Cascade Institute for Massage teaching Body Movement Analysis
