West Metopes #3-4 (Amazonomachy) In situ (Copyright A. Nicgorski, 1998)

The 14 metopes on the west side are in a sadly battered state having been chiseled down in the Early Christian era when the Parthenon was converted into a church dedicated to the Virgin Mary. Metope #3 shows a mounted Amazon victorious over a fallen Greek. Metope #4 shows a pitched battle between a Greek and an Amazon. The Greek might be a representation of Theseus who should appear somewhere.
