SUSTAINABILTY RETREAT 2009

What's Fairness Got To Do With It? A Conversation About Equity

A Joint Retreat with the Council for Diversity and Social Justice

Took Place October 2 & 3 at Lost Valley Ecovillage

Why

Equity is central to our understanding of sustainability at Willamette. Retreat participants will explore a series of questions and form initial answers and working groups around issues related to equity:

  • What is equity, and what does it, or should it look like at Willamette?
  • Where is equity visible at Willamette, and where is it missing?
  • What are the relationships between equity and sustainability?
  • How can we make “Equity” as one of Willamette’s four E’s of sustainability more tangible in the University curriculum, institutional structures, and campus culture?
  • How can the two Councils support each other in our work?

Who

Approximately 55 students, staff, faculty, administrators, trustees, and community members, including representatives of the Sustainability Council and the Council on Diversity and Social Justice.

The Lost Valley Ecovillage southeast of Eugene.
