President Dan Craig called the meeting to order at 10:05 a.m.
The November minutes were approved as presented.
The question was raised – did the right amount get transferred last year from the council budget to the scholarship account? Karen is checking into it, and will have a full report at the next council meeting.
Karen Cristobal
Karen reported the council balance as of December 6 to be $ 6067.00
Tori Ruiz
There was some discussion about whether council is the right vehicle for this issue. Tori will do some research about this topic, in terms of what awareness there is on campus (and what action), and will report her findings at the next meeting.
No report.
Holli Davenport (classified council representative) will be invited to join the next council meeting and report the current topics being undertaken by this group.
Several people have particular conflicts with Thursday meetings. It was discussed and then voted on and unanimously agreed that meetings will be moved from Thursdays to Wednesdays, at least for this coming winter and spring (second Wednesday of the month at 10 a.m.)
– Mary McKay
Guest speaker Mary McKay brought lots of information to the group about the value of archiving processes as well the importance of keeping records of council’s notes and data over the years. Council members have traditionally passed down notebooks and all notes and literature over the years, giving the recipient of the new role an unwieldy and messy batch of paperwork. Mary emphasized the importance of safekeeping materials for future generations for a variety of reasons (for historical information, to learn from previous councils, etc.) It was discussed and agreed by council that we will be archiving materials this year. Leslie suggested this be relegated as a summertime project, since council doesn’t meet in the summer. There will probably be a committee set up to figure out what and how we are going to go about archiving. This will be tabled until February, at which time it will be evaluated for the next step.
Liesa Kister
The Safety Committee has been conducting monthly building "walk through’s" to identify safety concerns as well as highlight best practices across campus. The committee plans to review all of the buildings on campus, and are soliciting staff input on selecting future buildings or workspaces.
In addition, the committee is planning an evening "lighting" walk through to identify outdoor trouble spots. They are seeking student input and/or participation in this process. Wendy Gleason attended the November Safety meeting and the committee offered to partner with Human Resources in an information and resource exchange, so safety related trainings and information opportunities can be offered, whenever possible, to the whole campus community.
No report
Dan will invite Cindy to the next council meeting for a report.
Everything is going smoothly for both luncheons. Night crew lunch activities are on track and we have enough council members volunteering at the night event.
Meeting was adjourned at 11:30.
