Community Service
The 230+ Classified Staff of Willamette University raise money throughout the year and donate to national, state, county, city, and Willamette University causes including: The American Red Cross, Marion/Polk Food Share, and the WU Take a Break program.
Our biggest fundraising event of the year is the annual Holiday Luncheon held in the fall. Classified employees partner with their departments or other employees to donate gift baskets, concert/theatre/movie tickets, gift cards, WU clothing, local artist's photos, plants, etc. for drawings at this luncheon. The proceeds raised were distributed to local groups/charities:
- 2006=$900.00 (three Willamette-related families)
- 2007=$843.00 (three Willamette-related families)
- 2008=$469.00 (three Willamette-related families)
- 2009=$1225.00 (Union Gospel Mission and YWCA Salem Outreach Shelter)
- 2010=$1067.00 (Liberty House Child Abuse Assessment an Family Building Blocks)
- 2011=$1135.00 (Marion-Polk Food Share and Humane Society of the Willamette Valley)
At each of the seven regular Classified Luncheons, there is a 50/50 drawing, where the winner keeps half of the money raised, and chooses where to donate the other half. These donations can be made to any external charity or internal Willamette program.
