Opportunity Description:

Boys and Girls club is looking to reinstate a program called ‘Fella’s Club.’ This group involves connecting with several university male student volunteers to come hang out and mentor our male youth at the Teen Center. It’s about an hour a week commitment. The idea is to hand out and start discussions, eat of course, and provide some positive role models who are close to the teens’ age.

Helping Teenagers who face significant barriers in their lives, reach their goals and achieve their full potential.

Opportunity Description:

We need tutors to come in 2-3 times a week and tutor the teens at our program that need some extra help with their school work. Specifically we are looking for math, english and foreign language tutors (French and Spanish) but any other subject would be great too.

Community Action Drug Prevention Network (CADPN) is a non-profit organization in Salem that serves Marion and Polk counties with the goal of preventing and reducing drug and alcohol use among all people in our service area. 

Opportunity Description:

CADPN is in need of volunteers to work with their youth programs, serving as a mentor at a cross generational after school mentoring program at McKay High School, or serving as a volunteer driver for reward-reminder outings with youth to reduce the sales of tobacco to minors (must be at least 21, have reliable transportation, and car insurance). Agency Description:

Easter Seals Children's Therapy Center is a therapy center in West Salem that provides services for children with developmental disabilities and additional special needs and diagnoses, ranging from autism to depression, and their families.

Opportunity Description:

Easter Seals are starting up a mentorship program, and are looking for students to serve. This is a great opportunity to work with/mentor a child who is in need of a positive role model. The program requires a very minimum commitment and is a great experience!

Girls on the Run Willamette Valley - Marion County

Agency Description:

Girls on the Run (GOTR) is a character development program that encourages preteen girls to develop self-respect and healthy lifestyles through physical activity, lessons, and mentoring, Girls on the Run is designed for girls in grades 3rd – 5th while its sister program, Girls on Track (GOT), is for girls in grades 6th -8th grades. Both groups, which consist of 12 t o 15 girls will meet two times per week after school for 90 minutes and are led by coaches who have completed the GOTR coaches training.

Opportunity Description:

GOTR is seeking volunteers to fill our Volunteer Coach/Assistant Coach position!

Coaching is the most hands on way to work with the Girls on the Run participants. You get to experience the program first hand, feel a sense of accomplishment that you have made a difference in the lives of the girls and have a ton of fun with your team of coaches and incredible girls! This volunteer position works closely with the assistant coach, council director and other coaches to facilitate the Girls on the Run curriculum to participants.

The HOME Youth Resource Center works to provide a safe, supportive environment where Salem's at-risk and homeless youth may have their immediate needs met as well as have positive opportunities to reconnect with their community. 

Opportunity Description:

The HOME Youth Resource Center is in need of volunteers to assist outreach workers by hitting the streets armed with a backpack of hygiene and harm reduction supplies along with resource information. Volunteers would talk to teenagers and attempt to assist them with their basic needs along with offering them community resource referrals and connecting them with the outreach workers to be case managed. Volunteers will learn about a hidden population and will come face to face with the realities of abuse, neglect, poverty, hunger, drug and alcohol usage, and victimization along with the beauty of hope and resiliency. Agency Description:

The Northwest Human Services, HOST Youth and Family Program is an emergency youth shelter for homeless and runaway youth ages 11-18.  We are typically a two week program and some of our services are:  family mediation, counseling, case management, parenting classes, etc.  Often times we get youth who need mentoring and/or tutoring.

Our School Judson is a traditional middle school serving students in grades 6 - 8. Average enrollment for our school is 910 students.

Opportunity Description:

Judson Middle School is in need of volunteers to mentor and tutor their students. Their most immediate need is for math tutors Monday - Friday from 10:45 - 11:30 am for a math class. Math tutors are also needed Monday - Friday 8:10 - 2:40 pm to work with small groups and individual students. Math tutors are also needed Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 2:40 - 4:20 pm to work with Home Work Club after school. Mentors are needed to work with male students, preferably during lunch periods one day a week. First lunch 10:42 - 11:12; Second lunch 11:35 - 11:43, and Third lunch 12:26 - 12:56. The McKay Area Coalition for Student Success (MACSS) recruits, screens, and places volunteers in roles identified by McKay High School, Stephens and Waldo middle schools and a number of the area elementary schools. McKay High has been identified by some of their low test score as the school with the higher need for community and volunteer involvement. That is why MACSS has decided to focus their attention into supporting McKay and all of its feeder school. 

Opportunity Description:

You can help with special events, such as community service projects and college visitations, or help students on a weekly basis.  You can be an elementary school Reading Buddy, Tutor, or After School Assistant.  You can help middle school students improve their grades in math or reading.  You can help high school students master study skills and prepare scholarship applications.  The students are ready, and the choice is yours! We're enrolling guys for our Sports Buddie Program. We train volunteers to build trusting, positive and fun relationships with their male mentees through weekly featured basketball activities at Parrish Middle School.

- Be available to meet weekly with 2 youth at Parrish Middle School for a minimum of 6 months
- Have reliable transportation and be willing to pick up and drop of mentees at their homes.

New Solutions - Volunteer Mentor Program

Marion County Health Department New Solutions is looking for volunteer mentors to work flexible hours with a child and/or youth with mental health needs and provide support and encouragment by building a relationship through community activities.

Opportunity Description:

Volunteer mentors must be able to pass criminal background and have a personal vehicle, be committed for at least six months. The minimum age is 18 and training is provided. College age students can work with youth for the nine months while in school, but all other volunteers are asked to commit for one year.

The Southeast Neighborhood Community Center runs an after school care program for children in the neighborhood which surrounds Willamette University. Approximately 85-100 children attend the after school care program each day so the center is always in need of more volunteers.

Opportunity Description:

The after school program runs Monday through Friday from 3:00 to 5:30 pm (Wednesdays 2:00 - 5:30 pm). The program's daily schedule includes play time, learning center time, snack time, and music/story time.
