South Salem High School - Willamette University Tutoring and Mentoring Program

The South Salem High School - Willamette University Tutoring and Mentoring Program was established in 2008 to connect Willamette student volunteers to the classrooms and study halls of South Salem High School. During the 2008-2009 academic year, approximately 50 Willamette students provided 650 hours of service as class room assistants and study hall tutors.

To volunteer with the South Salem High School - Willamette University Tutoring and Mentoring Program, please complete the Volunteer Mentor Application and the Criminal Background Check Form. Completed forms can be turned in to Laura Clerc in the Office of Community Service Learning on the 2nd floor of the UC.

TUESDAY/THURSDAY

9:30 - 10:40 am:  Accounting (Trotter)
In this course, basic accounting principles are taught mainly by computer. Volunteers are needed to roam around the classroom and aide with instruction and class work.

10:45 - 11:15 am: Athletic Study Hall
During this time, mentors are needed to assist student athletes with their homework.

 11:00-12:15pm Biology (Mr. Wood)
This class has Jr's and Sr's who have taken Biology 2 or 3 times and have yet to pass. Extra help and motivation is needed during class time.

Algebra 1 Class that could use mentors to catch up students who have been absent or fell behind and need to catch up.

2:30 - 3:00 pm: General Study Hall
After school general study hall where students can come and receive help with all subjects, class work, or projects. There will be a few teachers and other mentors present. Feel free to join in the festivities.

8:00 - 9:00 am:  Algebra I
Mentors are needed to help with class work and preparing for tests. This class is instructed on computer.
