Hello fellow NSOCO-ites,

First, I’d like to say good decision on choosing to do Jump Start. I did it as a freshman, and it really helped me meet people and get comfortable with Salem and campus, because I was definitely somewhat nervous coming to college. I liked it enough to lead it every year of college since (I’ll be a senior this year). I’m sure you have all volunteered a good amount in high school, but this program will give you a great view into many types of service opportunities here in Salem, on a variety issues, from hunger to childcare, and more.

Anyways, about me: I am from Seattle, WA. I went to a small arts and sciences high school, where music, theater, visual art, and dance were required. In high school, I played drums, did photography, and played lots of Dance Dance Revolution. I’ve worked summers since I was 16, including an arcade, a pizza place, and a wine bar most recently. I’ll be interning this summer in Seattle at a public relations firm. I currently work at the school’s Information Desk (a sweet work-study job), answering questions and the phones, and worked last year on the Community Action and Awareness Team (CAAT).

I listen to hip-hop, some rock, and electronic/techno music. For traveling, I have been to Cuba and Belize (with family, for fun basically), and to China and Tibet for three weeks with my 8th grade, visiting the Great Wall, our pen pals, and the Potala Palace. I also just studied abroad in Sevilla, Spain for 4 months this past fall semester. This was an incredible experience for me, in many ways.

I was also on the schools events board (WEB), working to collaborate with clubs on their various events. Lastly, I love Model United Nations, a class/club where you get to represent various countries in mock conferences throughout the West Coast (taking me to Portland, Seattle, San Francisco, and even Vancouver, BC).

Anyhow, I’d love to be of assistance in any way, if you want to talk about the leap into college, or have any questions you can email me at ebancroft@willamette.edu. See you all soon – can’t wait!
