Take a Break (TaB)

Take a Break (TaB) provides an opportunity for students, staff and faculty to work side by side learning about the social and environmental issues that affect our country. Student leaders are selected and trained to facilitate a hands-on educational experience. Participants' study the history and culture of the people they'll be working with, provide service for multiple organizations, and engage in discussions regarding relevant issues.

TaB is a service-immersion alternative break program and is a student-led educational experience. The trips typically occur during spring break, placing over 70 participants across the country. Typically trips have two student leaders, two trip advisors, two students from Tokyo International University of America, and nine Willamette University students. We have served in Mississippi, Louisiana, California, Florida, Illinois, Washington, Pennsylvania, Nevada, Oregon, New York, and Texas. Issues include poverty, illiteracy, HIV/AIDS, homelessness, hunger, drugs, environmental destruction, power, immigration, privilege, racism, and discrimination.

TaB is funded with support from the Lilly Project and fundraising efforts by the participants. Check out our current program!
