Functions

  • Network with faculty and other campus personnel to assist students in optimizing their potential.
  • Promote equal opportunity in a nondiscriminatory environment for individuals with a disability.
  • Assist individual students in developing lifelong learning and management skills as enumerated under assistance.
  • Develop and implement programs that enhance student learning at the University. Please see Willamette's Learning Enhancement Resources.
  • Provide referrals to academic advising, career services, counseling or other pertinent campus or off-campus resources.
  • Provide reasonable accommodations and support services as indicated by individual needs.
  • Encourage and assist students to be independent and to self-advocate.
  • Collaborate with campus personnel to remove architectural and attitudinal barriers which render buildings and activities inaccessible.
  • Assist the University in implementing legal statutes and precedents related to campus access for individuals with disabilities.
  • Enhance academic performance by using individualized strategies to:
    1. problem solve why you are not meeting self-expectations
    2. manage time
    3. improve notetaking skills
    4. study efficiently
    5. read effectively
    6. develop test taking skills
    7. utilize available networks on campus
  • Foster the concept that Moving Forward is a lifelong process. Key determinants in this process on the college campus might include:
    1. practicing effective study habits, being prepared and reviewing regularly; avoid cramming
    2. attending classes; participating in discussion
    3. self-monitoring progress continually
    4. developing an academic relationship with your professor
    5. seeking help
